In February we hosted a Taonga PÅ«oro wÄnanga at Arahura Marae in collaboration with Haumanu Collective.
Attendees had an opportunity to foster new relationships and strengthen existing ones through the sharing of whakapapa. The wÄnanga was an exchange of mÄtauranga (knowledge) where participants delved into pÅ«rÄkau associated with Taonga PÅ«oro and their healing properties with a chance be in workshops that specified in hands on workshops which were 1-Composition and 2- Creation of a NgÅ«ru, traditional nose flute.
This mÄtauranga gave a deeper understanding of these traditional MÄori musical instruments and their cultural significance and the fact that they are so much more than an instrument.
We spent time connecting to the taiao (environment), the marae, the whenua (land), and the awa (river), allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the pÅ«rÄkau and elements surrounding the space in which we were in wÄnanga.
